Title: Freely Given
Fandom: Versailles
Rating: Explicit
Genre: PWP, missing scene
Word Count: 1017 (Oneshot)
Characters/pairing: Fabien Marchal/Sophie de Clermont.
Warnings: BDSM, spanking
Summary:I liked everything you did to me. Everything. Even when you hurt me.
AN: This fic takes place immediately after A Bewildered Heart. It is, in fact, a direct continuation of the last scene in it. At the time I wasn’t in the mood to write smut, so I decided to finish the fic, and make this into a missing scene-fic instead. It seems what I needed to prompt me to get into the smut, was to pause from writing angst…

If you haven’t read the previous fic, this works very well to read as a PWP. The first bit is lifted directly from the end of A Bewildered Heart.

AN: I wanted to say this fic is pure self-indulgence, but then isn’t that true about fanfic in general? Perhaps because this fic, as indeed all my Versailles-fic, are new territory for me- after more than a decade of fanfic writing I’ve never really written love stories before. And this story is a reaction to season 2. There are no spoilers here, indeed, this fic is firmly a canon-divergence story, but it’s still a reaction. I want Fabien and Sophie to be happy. They may still be in the show, of course, but I doubt they will be happy with each other. Luckily there is always fanfic. I never intended this to be a series, but that’s what it is. I’m still writing a piece of smut which will tie directly with A Bewildered Heart, and there will be another fic to round it all off, eventually.

So, I saw the last two episodes of Versailles yesterday. On the whole I feel the second season was much weaker than the first, but I still enjoyed it very much. There were a few things I disliked, but also things I loved. Some of it is grounded in my knowledge of history- I cannot un-know things, and at times this didn’t gel for me. However, if you know less about what really happened, you may very well not be bothered about it at all! And don’t get me wrong, despite my complaints, still love the show, otherwise I would stop watching.

As always spoilers under the cut.

This week i decided to make peace Versailles, and consequently enjoyed it immensely. And really, most of the things which has irked me, are really only something that (may) annoy you if you know the history, and the real characters of the people. Because let me tell you, the only characters who isn’t wildly out of character at this point are Liselotte and Madame de Montespan. But I buy it, because I love the actors are great, and their acting sell it all to me, even if I know it’s wrong.

I also realise I have expected too much of the show vis a vis the Affair of Poisons. You see, it was HUGE. As in going on for almost a decade and involving hundreds of people. It started out when a woman called Brinvilliers poisoned several members of her family, shocking France because she was both beautiful and upper class. The belief that your outer circumstances like looks and social class, said something about your character, was something widely held back then. And eventually, more and more people were implicated, and as time went, more and more people at court were dragged into it. Louis XIV, who initially was very much for finding all the guilty ones, got a bit of cold feet then. And when the accusations reached Madame de Montespan, he put the lid on it. Parts of the evidence was destroyed, though what was left were enough to executed. And a whole bunch of people who were innocent, but friends and family to the executed, were sent to prison for life, and forbidden to ever speak again. Madame de Montespan was never convicted of anything, but she was sent to a convent. It seems fairly certain there were some burning hot things the king really didn’t want the public to know about. And all this is beyond the scope of Versailles, and I should have realised that- it was just that I would have loved to see the whole, intricate affair being made into TV. But it was so complicated it would need a different kind of show altogether. Versalles focus on Louis XIV, and but necessity the whole thing must be made smaller and more intimate.

As the kid is with his father, we can’t watch Doctor Who<7i> until next Wednesday. We also can’t start with American Gods, which starts on Sunday, until then. I’m very excited over that show!

As usual, spoilers under the cuts, so beware!

Doctor Who )

I’m now six episodes in on Versailles, and I’m sorry to say I find it weaker than the first. (Apart from three huge NO’s, those are heartbreaking!) However, this may be because 17th century history is one of my favourite periods, and a lot of what irks me, has to do with that. If you don’t feel that is important, then I think you won’t find the same thing irritating. And this is what annoys me:

Title: A Bewildered Heart
Fandom: Versailles
Rating: Teen
Genre: Drama
Word Count: 1860
Chapters: 5/5
Characters/pairing: Fabien Marchal/Sophie de Clermont.
Warnings: For this chapter; kink negotiations, mild painplay
Summary: Sophie de Clermont is settling down to her new role in life, but Fabien Marchal still disturbs her peace of mind. If not exactly the same was as before.
AN: For some reason, this chapter took ages to come together. I hope you will think it works. I’ve also lowered the rating. Originally I had intended to include some smut, and if there is an interest for it, I may post that bit as a separate part later.

I feel a bit full of Versailles at the moment, so I need to write it out. I’m sorry if you feel like I’m teasing you. I’d love to discuss all this with you! But I can always return to this later. There are spoilers up until episode 4 under the cut, so please, don’t look!

Generally it seems like the budget has been beefed up. There are more extras and a lot more fabric and decorations in the background, making the overall look very lush and rich-looking. The costumes are still good, if not a perfect re-creation of 1670’’s fashion. But it’s clear a lot of thought has gone into how people look, and there is also a marked change in women’s gowns and hair, which is nice as fashion did change, and time do pass. I also crave Chevalier’s dressing gown.

Speaking of time, the season begins a very short time after the last season ended, not four years later. The first season really cover four years, but it’s not very clear, and easy to miss. It’s clear if you read the novelization, but that’s about the only good thing in it. Don’t read it.

Suddenly there were four episodes of Versailles to watch instead of a premiere on Thursday as had been previously said. Guess what I did tonight? The downside is that I won't have anyone to squee with in forever! I shan't spoil you, but I will say that I consider the genius of dressing Tygh Runyan in knee-high boots and leather gauntlet a personal gift. all my buttons has been pushed.

AN: I couldn’t resist including Sweden in this chapter. It’s not so far-fetched, in my family tree there is a French Huguenot family who fled France in the 1660’s, establishing themselves in Stockholm and became quite prosperous silk merchants.

The last few days haven’t been fun. Let’s sum it up to one word and leave it at that; mucus. I’m still weak as a kitten and mostly do as little as possible and feeling bored to tears. And feel like the donkey in Shrek who constantly asks if they are there yet, because this spring I look forward to several shows more than I usually look forward to such stuff.
