Right... they did mention, when they were preparing her to kill the Doctor that she had just gotten her doctorate, didn't they? I didn't think they meant immediately after graduation, though... nice twist to that one!

Aw, I felt just a smidge of sympathy for the Master here, when he made as if to rescue her. Then he just slunk back into the shadows and left. Oh well...
