Your reasoning is very interesting, and sounds exactly right to me! Very good points. And the white-washing also speaks for it indeed. Honestly, that annoys me so much, it feels like picking the parts you like in a character and dismissing what makes the core ;) It is different when the redemption stories are deeply thought-out, intelligent and believable, but sadly that is a bit rarer. Ah well! I like my evil evil, just like you ;)
