The Snowflake Challenge; Day 7

Day 7
In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I have always liked more than one fandom but of course I love some more than other. Like Doctor Who. I started watching the Classics some 13 years ago and have loved the show since then, but it’s only since late 2014 I actually went actively fannish. I love both Classic and New Who, but when it comes to reading and writing fanfiction, I mostly go for the Classics. I’m not sure why, perhaps because backgrounds and character developments sometimes leaves something (or a lot) to wish for, holes that fanfics can fill.
And why do I love it? Well, for several reasons. As a child I remember a documentary about time and a scientist who said that we don’t really understand what time is and if we did, then we would have to throw away our clocks and start anew in how we measure time. I found that fascinating. So a series about an alien who really gets time and knows how to bend it and use it, that concept really speaks to me.
I also love how this show have rejuvenation built into it. Which is probably why the show have remained popular for so long. even the best show can feel tired and actor’s may be visible bored with their roles. In Who the main character are supposed to change and with it the show. I have always liked hero’s who are a bit ambiguous. The Doctor always try to do his best, but sometimes his best intention make bad things happen. And sometimes he fails. And this is something that happens to other character’s as well, even if they want to do the best, the result may very wrong. And the bad guys aren’t always EVIL. They may be, of course, but they may also have so different interpretation of what the best action is, that they are perceived as evil. And then we have the Master/Missy who is very much the Doctor’s mirror, or shadow and their relationship. regardless if you see it as romantic, or not, is still an interesting relation built on a mutual dependence despite the differences. The Master is a chaotic character, but s/he is still not the exact opposite against the Doctor, who isn’t averse to a little chaos in his life. If anyone stands for order, then it’s the Time Lords, who largely have disregarded feelings, care and imagination for order. The Doctor is more of a cascade, setting events in motion throughout the Universe and brings change that way.
And I love the show because it can be set in any time period and because it incorporates so many different genres. You can get a period drama, or a space opera, a romance, a comedy and a tragedy. You never really know. There is a large element of uncertainty in Doctor Who, you never know where or when, and, for that matter, who. It all makes my imagination soar.
And here is a trailer from the Third Doctor’ first season, season 7 in 1970. I liked the show from the beginning, but it was Three who made me fall in love with it.

Is there anywhere to watch them?

You don't have to watch it with the First Doctor first. In a way it becomes a new series every time the Doctor regenerates.
Is there anywhere to watch them?
I don't know, I'm afarid. I have borrowed from friends and bought my copies. I know they are available at certain piraty sites if one feels so inclined.

I've read it, but in my early teens, so it was a long time ago. I remeber I liked it.

I can wholeheartedly agree to everything you said. I only watched some episodes of old!Who so I can't talk about that part but I've seen all the new!Who and one thing that I love are the friendships the Doctor has - especially with his companions and their families.
My favorite Doctor/companion duo of New!Who is Doctor/Donna. I loved their dynamic. The actors have incredible chemistry and were able to transfer it on to the screen. Plus it was refreshing (after all the companions before that who were more or less in love with the doctor) to have a strong platonic relationship between these two.

Donna is my favourite companion of all Doctor Who! She's so wonderful; a bit loud and confrontative, insecure at times but with a moral compass that never falters and she is always kind. I don't think I will ever forgive the way they wrote her out. So awful to not even get to remember how great she was! I still hope they will take her back and fic this somehow!
And yes, I loved her and Ten's friendship. I prefer the Doctor being friends with his companions, not as potential love interests.

The thing that consoles me a little is that "the Donna!Doctor's song will always be sung in the universe" to quote the Ood.

That's true! :)

Doctor Who was my first media fandom (my mom wanted to see if it would be something I'd like, I'd read through most of the library's science fiction) 4th, 3rd, 5th, what was extant of 1st and 2nd, 6th. I've not seen all of 7th due to scheduling issues in the day.
I've yet to see NüWho under condusive conditions.

Saw the movie (8th), didn't have the same problem with it as other people did (at the time, there was a Thing). But then I knew the regeneration episodes well.

Yes! :D
I adore all Doctors! Then I adore some a little bit more. :)
(And I realise I don't have any Doctor icons. The Master and companions, yes. Doctor, no. How very amiss of me!)
