A brief looking back on fic writing in 2015

I have managed to put a little something in all my friends stockings, unless I have managed to miss that there is a stocking.

I look forward to the Yuletide reveal more and more. I’m sure there will be a lot of good stuff to read. <-lj-cut>I’ve deleted one of my treats, though. Not because I don’t like it, but because I more and more felt it needed more work. Then I heard back from my beta who said essentially the same with some very valid points. So I will re-work it because I think it’s good enough to deserve that. I doubt I will make the treat deadline now, but I can always drop the treat-ee when it fic is finished and say it was meant for them.

Looking back on 2015 I realise I have finished 36 fics this year, as well as adding a chapter on a WIP and re-written 3 old fics. That’s not a bad record. Most of these are one-shots, though, but still. I have, however, a growing feeling of being a bit too rushed when I write. I get an idea and I want it out, and then I re-read a bit later and just feels it would have benefitted so much if I had paced myself. Like Professor Keller which even if I think is one of the best things I have ever written, and I still think it’s getting much better now when I’, re-writing it. I don’t do New Year's resolutions, but I think I will try to spend a bit more time on polishing my writing.

I really feel I have evolved writing-wise this year. When I last wrote fic regularly it was mainly as self-therapy and they certainly have a thematic sameness over them. But that is ten years ago and even if I never stopped writing completely, this is the first time since then I have written something every day. And I have branched out, writing lighter and funnier things than I have ever been able to do before. I don’t need to finish a fic/chapter every week, perhaps I would benefit to set the pace slower.

However, I am a bit sad that I let the ball drop completely for DD. First writing and then reading too- I have a lot to read up on! I really like the community and I want to participate again.

What I did in 2015 that I had never done before, was to join in several gift exchanges and remixes and I really enjoyed doing that. I will definitely doing more of that kind of fic writing.

Speaking of which, there is, as I understand it, a new multifandom gift exchange called Chocolate Box. Nominations are up on AO3 until December 29.

Well done for your Stocking work:) And for writing lots of fic!

I can't wait for reveal either. I want to know exactly what time it's happening! Put your treat in New Year's Resolution, when it's done, you have until next Yuletide to post it:)

Thank you!

I find I'm sitting here with a ham sandwish instead of going to bed and waiting...

Of course! I've been so absorbed with just the Yuletide part I hadn't really registred that option. :D
