April talking meme

20: [livejournal.com profile] lycoris asked: If you had a time machine where would you choose to go and visit with it and why?

Visit is the key word- I wouldn’t want to live in it. I would take my husband to the 18th century and go on all of Mozart’s opera premieres. And I would take my friends C and K and go fabric shopping in just about any decade.

And I wouldn't mind taking a trip to London in 1483 and find out who really killed the princes in the Tower as the question of Richard III’s guilt in that case was the first historical mystery I was hooked on.

Oh, yeah, I 'd like to solve the mystery of the princes in the Tower too! Should we all be Ricardians? I want to know!

I read Daughter or Time by Josephine Tey at an impressionable age and have always wanted Rickard to not have done it. But I want to know! :D

Great choices!

Thanks! :)

My money's on the Duke of Buckingham.

[identity profile] scripsi.livejournal.com 2016-04-20 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
It's a good bet! :)

[identity profile] lycoris.livejournal.com 2016-04-20 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
I picked "visit" very specifically for that reason - popping in and out of time would be quite different from picking an actual place to live, I think!

Hmmm, I can't help feeling one would have to linger for quite a while to get that information! (and that's not a time period I would want to live in!) Might need to get in with the right people which would take time, effort and possible risk of head-chopping off ... I mean, you could certainly pick up the gossip but we kind of know that the gossip was heavily weighted to "Richard did it/had it done." so it's not really conclusive ... I think we might need a time machine and an invisibility ray for that one! :)

[identity profile] scripsi.livejournal.com 2016-04-21 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
You are right, you would need an insibility ray too. And thinking about it I don't really feel keen to actually see small children being murdered, so I guess I will have to stand back and decide that it will have to remain a mystery after all.

LOL, If it turned out that it was indeed Richard's order (I mean, given the circumstances, hardly unlikely), you'd have to keep it a secret ever after, though, or you'd be lynched by wild Ricardians!

A visit to the 18th C could be cool, but, as you say, a visit is the key phrase!

[identity profile] evelyn-b.livejournal.com 2016-04-20 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
If time travel ever became a possibility, I bet some especially dedicated Ricardians would take it upon themselves to go back to 1483 and kill the princes themselves, thereby creating conclusive proof that it couldn't have been Dickon.

Probably only Ricardians with untrustworthy blue eyes, though. Nice brown-eyed people aren't murderers, even in a good cause! ;-)

[identity profile] scripsi.livejournal.com 2016-04-24 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Naturally! Murder only happens in Europe and northern America as everyone knows! ;)

[identity profile] scripsi.livejournal.com 2016-04-21 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
I'm afrad you are right- they are a rather weird fanbunch!

ndeed! I swear, Richard III's fangirls are the strangest ones I have encountred on the Net!

[identity profile] evelyn-b.livejournal.com 2016-04-20 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
All of Mozart's opera premiers sounds like a great trip! How would you feel if it turned out everyone else in the audience was also a time traveler, though? Disappointed, or still happy to be a part of it? (Since time travel was invented, no one can get tickets to opening night in their own time anymore. Even the destined flops are crammed full of hipsters from the 27th century).

I'd love to visit the past, but only with a full schedule of vaccines and plenty of bottled water.

[identity profile] scripsi.livejournal.com 2016-05-02 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, I Think I would prefer to be the only time-travellers. But you are right, i bet it would be crammed with people from the future...

And yes, only travel with vaccines and water!

The only problem with finding out who killed the Princes is that you would have to be with them at the same time! If it turns out the Princes wandered out one day I will eat all of my hats though.

The Tudor spies did it though, everyone knows it: Fact;p

*nods* They probably ran away to join a circus.

Interesting answer to this, especially that last bit! :)

Glad you found it so! :)

Oh, the little princes! What a great/sad answer. Actually, all these answers are awesome. I think I'd want to go to China, India, and France for fabric. I'm a fan of silk, and heavy textured fabrics.

Sounds like a great time period to visit.

I think it would be interesting. :)

Oh, those are some great travels! :-D I would love to go and see if I could solve who the hell Jack The Ripper really was! X-D

I fear we would be diappointed! :D
