What I have been watching
Spoilers below
I found the finale of Supernatural quite satisfying. It’s been the best season in years and I really liked that they didn’t defeat Amara. She actually made some personal growth and she and Chuck came to an understanding and an acknowledging of how much they loved and needed each other. I wasn’t surprised that they left, though. We can’t have God hanging around, can we? And I even enjoyed Rowena in these last episodes. I was less impressed by the British (wo)man of letters and the Winchester Mum coming back. But perhaps it will get better next season.
And Liz wasn’t dead in Blacklist, which I didn’t think she was- but I was very much surprised that it was Kate who had spirited away. I thought Red’s grief was because Liz was in a coma, but he actually didn’t know she was alive. Wasn’t the least surprised over the revelation that Alexander is Liz’ father- I saw that coming. I think he is driven more by some kind of medical need of a relative than fatherly love, though.
Feeling a bit 17th century-inspired I watched Vatel which has languished unseen on my DVD-shelf for years. It’s (loosely) based on a real person who was steward to the Prince of Condé. In 1671 in, allegedly, killed himself during a visit of the king. In the movie it’s because he is unhappily in love and also because he realises that in the eyes of his noble master he is just a thing that can be bought and sold. It’s a visually stunning movie and I really liked Vatel’s rival of the beautiful Anne’s affections, smarmily played by Tim Roth. (I always like Tim Roth) And Uma Thurman as Anne was very beautiful. I also liked the unexpected understanding between Vatel and and an extremely sissy Philippe D'Orleans. But Vatel is played by Gerard Depardieu and I don’t think that much of his acting abilities. I understood Vatel’s emotions more as they were mirrored by the other actors than by Depardieu himself, which was a pity.

But I'm looking forward to next season. Red's been knocked for a big loop. I want to see that play out.

It is amazing the level of dreck I will sit through for Tim Roth.

The Blacklist was also stellar!! I knew Liz hadn't died and figured if anything, Mr Kaplan would be in on it. Rather not surprised about Liz's dad, either, but not impressed about how he chose to introduce himself. Oh yeah. He's got the best of intentions *sarcasm*
*HUGS*

I agree about Supernatural. I really enjoyed this season. I love when characters talk to each other and Sam and Dean did start having actual conversations instead of just hiding things. And I enjoyed most of the episodes. There were several standout episodes too.
And resolution with Amara worked out well. Thankfully, they dropped anything 'romantic' between her and Dean, and used Dean's strength, which is talking about family.
I do hope next season would be more episodic without larger doom arc. You can't go bigger than end of universe anyway.

I'd like a more episodic season as well, but I doubt it. But after this strong season one can at least hope it will be a good one anyway.

The Blacklist: I saw Kaplan being behind it all, but I did not see Alexander as Liz's father coming. It makes sense that it has to do with health reasons...

LOL- for me it was the exact opposite. :)
