What I am reading Wednesday
May. 27th, 2015 04:53 pmWhat I am reading now: The Man Behind the Master by Karen Louise Hollis.
Rise To Me by Shani Struthers.
And still the book about Lizzie Borden.
What I have finished reading: The Ghost Fields by Elly Griffiths. This is the last book about forensic archeologist Ruth Galloway, another one of those series s that I read whenever there is a new book. These books are formula crime novels, but they are also rather charming.. A crime in the past either is connected, or a parallel, to a modern crime. Ruth is, on one way or another, roped in to help DCI Nelson and his team and has, of course, a big part in the final solution. In this book a WWII plane, with pilot, in unearthed at a building site. But the man in the plane was a man who died at sea and, it turns out, has been buried somewhere else before he is put in the plane.
I’m a big fan of historical murder mysteries, ever since I read The daughter of Time by Josephine Tey and a pre-teen. Ruth is a likeable character and so are most of the other characters as well. My favourite is the modern druid Cathbad. There is, not very original, a lot of sexual tension between the married Nelson and Ruth, but it is solved (or not solved) in a more unusual way. I also like that the characters life doesn’t stands till, they fall in love, have kids, divorce, and change opinions, just like people do in real life. The characters also feels like real people, with both flaws and good sides. Most of the villains are people as well, not stereotypical bad guy. It’s perfectly possible to read any book in the series first, though, there are enough information sprinkled in each book to ground the characters, but I enjoy the “extra” story you get when you read them in the right order.
What I will be reading next:<7b> No idea. I have a few to finish first.
