What Am I Reading Wednesday
Jun. 3rd, 2015 12:06 pmWhat I am reading: Whose Body by Dorothy L. Sayers.
Vernon House by Sandra Farris.
And still that book about Lizzie Borden. There is only so much bloody ax-murders you can stomach every week.
What I have finished reading: The biography over Anthony Ainley that got a post all on its own.
Rise To Me by Shani Struthers. Rather a disappointment, I’m sorry to say. It’s number two in a series called Psychic Surveys, the first one was called The Haunting of Highdown Hall. I really liked that one. A psychic woman starts a small company that deals with ghosts and other supernatural phenomena. Highdown Hall was the home of a famous movie star and she is now haunting the place and the Psychic Survey gets called in. It was a bit of a mystery novel, a slow unravelling to what happened to the movie star before her death and the reason she is a ghost. Ruby, the central character is nice and there is also a cute ghost dog. What’s not to love?
In Rise To Me Ruby is afflicted with what seems to be a demon. A demon who many years earlier has caused her mother into a complete breakdown. Sadly it didn’t grip me like the first books did and it dragged a bit. I also found a sub-story about a murdered girl to end very unsatisfactory. I’ll probably read the next book anyway in the hope that the series will perk up again.
What I will be reading next: Probably Clouds of Witness by Dorothy L. Sayers. She’s one of my favourite writers and a regular re-read.
What I have been watching: Doctor Who: Kid and I are on Mindwarp, which I kind of hate because I know how it will end for Peri. Husband and I just saw Vincent and the Doctor, which is one of my favourite DW-episodes ever.
Orphan Black and Penny Dreadful continues to amaze me. I loved Mrs. S and Elena trashing it out and that Felix finally got some kind of recognition. In PD just about everyone had sex, but there was some plot too. I wonder what Lilly will say when she remembers that Victor killed her.
Husband and I have binge-watched Agent Carter, which I loved. I’m very pleased that there will be another season.
