Fandom Snowflake Challenge banner

Day 6

In your own space, create your own challenge. What’s something you want to see more people doing in fandom? Is there something you’ve tried that you think other people would enjoy if they gave it a go? Dare your friends to try it out, and have fun with it. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Well, as I talked about the importance of reviewing yesterday, I won’t make that as a challenge. Instead I challenge you to rec more! There is a lot of fanfic out there and it can be difficult to find something you like, especially in very large fandoms. It’s impossible to read everything and I’m sure I’m not the only one who set up certain parameters for what to read. Special characters or pairings, themes one likes best, authors one allready know writes well. But sometimes it would be nice to read something outside the box and here I find recs invaluable. I’ve read so many great fics that has been recommended to me that I would never have read otherwise.

I’m sure there will be a Snowflake challenge about reccing, but I’d like to challenge you to rec more in general. As a recurring feature or occasional rec dump. Or once in a blue moon when you have read something spectacular. Or volunteer to do a stint at some reccing community.

And you will also make an author happy- it’s very flattering to have a story other people think is good enough to rec!

Here is my list of recs.

We went to an 18th century Twelfth Night Ball last night. I’m tired and not really coherent and am woefully behind on my January Talking meme. I will be back at it a little later. Also my feet hurt. And I have washed my hair two times and still have pomade and powder left in it. But it was lots and lots of fun with good food and friends all round.

Despite being on a strict budget I splurged at Miss L Fire’s sale and bought these:

My husband says I’m in dire need of correcting for irresponsible behaviour. I rather look forward to that. And I really did need new shoes.

Tom is now known as “the gangster dog”. A few months ago he learned how to tackle the gate we have instead of a kitchen door by way of making himself flat and glide underneath it. We lowered the gate. Now he has figured out how to put his head underneath and nick it up hard. Voila, the gate swings open. That dog is too smart for his own good.

Our short walks has turned into a circus. This what happens: First comes Missy, our tabby female cat. She always walk at least 5 yards before us to show how independent she is. Also so she can defend Teddie and Tom against all Evil Dogs we meet. That Teddie and Tom already wants to eat all other dogs unless they are an elderly cocker spaniel called Mindy, or a rottweiler named Bob is not something Missy think has any importance. However, if we meet anyone without dogs, she plays off a whole show of Help I Am Being Chased By Two Scary Dogs! Then she runs away from Teddie and Tom looking like she is SCARED! Even better if there is a tree nearby, then she climbs it and looks frail as much as she possibly can. More than once the people we meet has commented with a “Poor kitty, the dogs scared her!” I swear she is giggling.

Tedie and Tom the comes along with Nils, our tabby male. Nils was raised by husband’s old dog and loves dogs more than anything else. So he faithfully trots at his dogs heels and sniffs at everything they sniff at. Then I bring up the rear.

(If any of my fellow DW fans thinks Missy is named after Missy, I have to disappoint you. she’s been Missy for nearly ten years and is, in fact, named after a Scottish babysitter I had when I was a kid. She isn’t totally un-Missy like, though, only rather less inclined to world domination.I suppose the neighbour mices disagree with me there.)

(Also, for new friends; I have two Shetland Sheepdogs who are litter brothers. Tom is oldest and smartest, Teddie is the eternal sidekick. We also have four cats, Nils, Missy, Sheera and Hobbes.)

And now I shall go to bed and stop talking nonsense.
