Back in business
Aug. 28th, 2017 06:55 amI’m back! I understand you must have missed me terribly. ;)
Vacation was good without being spectacular. Summer has been sunny, but not very warm, generally around 20-22C. Everyone complains about it, but not me, because i detest heat, so for me the weather has been perfect.
The first week was spent in the summer house, only reading and sewing. We have two houses and my parents live in the other one, but they are very easy to get along with, and I enjoy having a little extra time with them. Mum and I went swimming before breakfast every morning. We also had a garden party, which was great fun.
The last three weeks we have been more back and forth- a few days in the summer house, a few days at home. We also went to see husband’s brother and his wife, who live in a small town basically in the middle of Sweden. My BiL and husband are super different when it comes to interest and looks, but they have quite similar personalities. I like both him and my SiL a lot, and it was great to see them. We also had time to visit my sister on our way home. My nephew grows more charming the older he gets. He doesn’t talk at all yet, but is very active and curious.
We had an 18th century picnic with a couple of friends, in the gardens of Drottningholm Castle, which was fun. The gardens are pretty much still as they were planted in the 18th century. The dogs enjoyed it too, especially Tom who managed to steal a whole salami. Luckily we could stop him before he had eaten the whole thing.
I spent a whole day with C, planing our artistic dress movement wardrobe for next summer.
The Kid’s uncle with family is visiting from US. I’m very fond of my former BiL, and his daughter are pure delight. She is two years old now and is completely fluent in both Swedish and English. She loves dogs, and was very good at petting them. She got a bit over excited at first, but when I explained the dogs didn’t like it when she was shouting and jumping, she calmed down. And was overjoyed when Teddie immediately came and lay down beside her.
I’m still working on the embroidered 18th century gown. The finishing touches involves a lot of hand sewing, which takes time. I’ve also almost finished and 1915 corset. Though now everything is on pause except a 1670’s mantua which have to be finished by September 16, as we are going to a 17th century ball then.
And I have been writing a bit. I’m halfway finished with my fic for the Remix-challenge, and have a finished synopsis for the Darkest Night. I’ve also written a chapter, and then a half on my Versailles fic. It’s funny, isn’t it, how you can write a couple of mediocre chapters and get rave reviews, and then pulls out something which you really would like an opinion on, and total silence settles? I have a terrible feeling the last chapter was a disaster and that no one liked it.
I doubt I will be able to read up on everything which has happened in my absence, but I will at least take a stab at it.
