Music meme
Feb. 23rd, 2016 09:25 amList five artists/bands and tell us why they should be listened too. Examples of their music optional, but welcome.
I have a penchant for quirky lyrics and I listen to almost all musical genres. All my recs can be found on Spotify.
1.Aurelio Voltaire. He’s usually labeled a Goth artist which is a bit of a mis-nomer. He is Goth, his music is influenced by a variety of genres. BiTrektual is a fan album dedicated to Star Wars and Star Trek (and Doctor Who). To the Bottom of the Sea is influenced by folk music, Hate Lives In A Small Town is a country album and so on. I love his lyrics and his sense of humour (very sarcastic and dark) and the way his music surprise me. Apart from these two songs, I really, really love Wall of Pride and Feathery Wings.
This songs makes me so happy:
2.The Divine Comedy. The only constant member in this band is Neil Hannon. He has a great voice and charm. The music can be both funny and heartbreakingly beautiful. There is a new album due this year and I can’t wait.
3.Elvis Costello. I have listened to him since my early teens. I enjoy the way his easy-listening music and seemingly light-hearted texts often has a much darker subtext if you sit down and really listen to them.
4.Tom McRae. My husband groan when I listen to Tom McRae because he finds him so depressing. I think that is part of his charm.
5.Pink Martini. A band which mix genres and do both covers and their own music. If I need a mental pick-me-up, this band always makes me cheerful.
