I haven't read the books, but my son tells me they are very different. I can imagine that would bug those who read the books- I'm usually quite annoyed by that.
Sansa's arc is very odd and disjointed to me. She did a lot of growing and was very adept in dealing with Joffrey in her own way. So it was just weird that tehy show trussed her together with somone even worse than Joffrey. I can understand why you stopped watching.
