21 – Sequels – Have you ever written a sequel to a fic you wrote, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?

I have written sequels at times. It’s nothing I plan, though. I tend to write fics that may be connected but not necessary to read in order, more than real sequels. I have no strong feelings about sequels in particular.

22 – Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?

Yes, twice for the first time this summer. First a re-mix and the Rare Pair Fest. It was great fun and something I look forward doing again. Also, it’s a great night ego stroke to have one of your fics re-mixed.

23 – When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site?

LJ first, then I post on AO3 because it’s an archive I really like, and FF.net out of habit. If it’s a Doctor Who-fic I also post on Teaspoon. If there is a LJ community where the fic fits, I usually post a link to my LJ there.

24 – Betaing – How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your fic? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story?

I don’t have a beta-reader. I wouldn’t mind one, but I’m not sure how to get on about it. I have had it and liked it. In run my fics through a couple of online editing tools to try to catch as many mistakes as possible. English is not my native language and I’m very aware of that.

25 – Music – Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your fic? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it completely quiet?

Yes and no. I’m very often inspired by music and quite often a particular song get connected with the fic I’m writing and I listen to it over and over. When I wrote Burning I listened to Dave Gahan’s Deeper and Deeper, The Divine Comedy’s Mastermind when I wrote Sliding Down the Razorblades of Life, and Marcy Playground’s Deadly Handsome Man when I wrote My Pleasure, Miss Shaw. I have always connected Elvis Costello with Doctor Who for some reason, and when I wrote Professor Keller I listened to several of his songs.

But I don’t listen to music when I actually write, that’s too distracting. I can write when people talk around me or with a TV going on in the background, but I tend to stop writing to listen if I have music on. But while I think about my writing and when I plan it, then I always listen to music.

26 – What is the oddest (or funniest) thing you've had to research for a fic?

Hmm, i can’t recall anything particularly odd or funny. I tend to write about things I know something about, so no research needed, but I occasionally look up terms. When I wrote Peter Pan-fic it could be necessary to look into ship terms, for example. But I constantly check up synonyms while I write as I trend to reuse the same word over and over. My record is the same word seven times in a paragraph...

27 – Where is your favorite place to write, and do you write by hand or on the computer?

I have a laptop but I usually use it at our dinner table. I write on my computer unless I’m stuck somewhere without it and I get a bunny. Then I write it down manually so I won’t forget it.

28 – Have you ever collaborated with anyone else, whether writing together, or having an artist work on a piece about your fic?

No. I’m not sure I would be very good at co-writing something but I would love to have artwork for a fic. It has happened once and I was enormously flattered.

29 – What is your current project or projects?

I always write on more than one fic at any given time. And then I have a few in the hall och shame of unfinished fics. Two of those I plan to finish:

Dudley’s Cousin, a Harry Potter fic about Dudley Dursley, or rather about the girl he meets and her reaction when learning about Dudley’s strange cousin.

Mary’s Tale, a Sleepy Hollow fic about Lady van Tassel and what happened to her to make her into such a cruel and vengeful woman.

I’m re-writing Professor Keller, a Doctor Who fic about the master between Terror of the Autons and The Mind of Evil.

I’m also writing on a rather silly fic about the Fifth Doctor and Clara. I also have a fic with Cheeta!Master and Sarah Jane Smith which is a number of paragraphs at the moment.

30 – Do you have a favorite fic you've written? What makes it your favorite? And don't forget to give us a link.

Professor Keller, a Doctor Who a story about a couple who are hapless enough to meet the Master when the Doctor isn’t there to help out. They meet this charismatic person whom they like and trust and who then slowly turn their lives into a nightmare. I think I did a pretty good job of conveying this spiralling nightmare for the protagonists, their terror and their confusion. I also think I managed a good Master, balancing between charm and cruelty. It’s not a happy fic, but I like a good tragedy. And even if I think it’s the best thing I have written, I still can’t let go of it and am working on a re-write.

I think people like it as well, even if only [personal profile] flowsoffire has actually commented on it. It has few hits, which isn’t so surprising- how many wants to read about the Master if the Doctor isn’t around, really? (Well, I obviously.) And a lot of people are very sceptical towards original characters, but on AO3 the ratio of kudos compared to the hits makes it one of my highest rated fics ever, and it also have more bookmarks than most of my other fics as well.

It started out with me wondering what an evil Time Lord would do in his spare time. Delgado!Master is a very charming villain who rarely resort to physical violence, but underneath the charm and the seeming good humour he is not only ruthless, but pretty sadistic too. I still remember the shock I felt in Terror of the Autons when he kills that poor man by suffocating him slowly in a deflating chair while he just watches. It’s unnecessary cruel, the Master could easily have disposed of him quickly, so evidently he gets a kick out of it.

Also, the Master is very much the anti-Doctor and most people who are in contact with the Doctor gets a better life for it. It open up their horizon and even if some companion’s end up worse than when they started, like dead, the majority grew and get a good life, often better than it was before. So I figured the people who meets and survive the Master would be marked by their experience as well, but not in a good way.

When I rewatched Three’s second season, the one where the Master shows up in every episode I realised that quite some time must have elapsed between the first and second one. In Terror of the Autons the Master shows up on Earth and basically draft minions where he finds them. In the second he has a whole slew of specialized minions and a plan that spans several countries and must cost a lot of money. He has also established himself a professor and adapted to some Earth habits, like smoking cigars. He even mimics the Doctor and has a cute sort-of-companion, whom he terrorises. So I wondered how he got hold of all the money and how he managed to establish himself. He wouldn’t want the Doctor to notice him too early, so I guess he would not solely use mind control to get what he wanted. And then fic happened...
