Music Monday - The Beatles

I’ve been on a bit of a Beatles-trip ever since I saw Eight Days A Week. The Beatles was my first own musical discovery, even if I must have heard them as a small kid as my father has several Beatles albums. But when I was nine Help was shown on Swedish television and I feel hard and fast a few notes into it. The music was great and they were funny in much the same way as Monty python, which I already adored, but The Beatles was cute too.
Then my father broke my heart telling me they had disbanded the year before I was born. I felt so cheated! I had been born too late and missed them completely. But I found all my father’s Beatles album and listened to them over and over again. When John Lennon was shot a few months later I was devastated once again. It was the first time I can remember hearing news and feeling personally affected by them.
But my favorite Beatle was always George Harrison. To me he always seemed to be the nicest one. Still very funny but in a quiet way which really appealed to me. ANd he was so good-looking. Funny, I’ve never really thought about it before, but that early crush probably helped shaping me into basically only being turned on by a certain physical type when it comes to men. And George Harrison very much was that type.
What I didn’t know up until a few years ago, that the songs he wrote for The Beatles are always among my favourite songs on the albums he contributed to. For the longest time I never thought of who wrote the songs, so I was a but surprised in learning that. Especially as he contributed with so few songs compared to Lennon and McCartney.
I know I have said this more than once, While My Guitar Gently Weeps isn’t only my favourite Beatles song, it’s probably my number one song ever.
