Mostly on age
Feb. 6th, 2016 11:06 pmI’m having a period with insomnia, which is a dreary as always. It doesn’t help that I have pulled a muscle in my back either. Hopefully it will be better tonight as we cleaned the house and I made Chhote Kofte and Makkhani Murghi (Lamb meatballs and chicken in butter sauce) for tomorrow’s birthday dinner. I love Indian food! Tomorrow I just need to heat it and make the rice and Naan breads. So I’m rather tired.
Sister and BiL can’t come tomorrow as she suffer from a bad case of SPD- and with 20 weeks to go of the pregnancy. ANd as it is a high risk pregnancy they don’t dare to give her any medication to help with the pain.
My father has regained most of his voice and sense of taste. I hope it will bring back his appetite- he has lost about ten kilos. On an already slim man, this looks rather alarming and he has aged a lot this past months. His turning 72 this year, but a year ago he looked to be in his 50’s, and he has always looked very youthful, so I feel a bit shocked every time I see him.
It’s around freezing point and very damp outside which makes my joint ache. That’s middle age for you, I guess. I don’t see my 45 years when I look in the mirror, people generally think i’m about ten years younger than I am, but in the last year or so I have noticed that my body isn’t as cooperative as it used to be.
And speaking of looking younger, I am having a rather weird experience with acquaintance of mine. They are mother and daugher and the mother is two year older than me and the daughter 20. The daughter is a really sweet girl who for some reason seems to have acquired a bit of a hero-worship when it comes to me. It feels a bit odd, but as she’s so sweet I don’t mind. The weird bit is that her mother seems to have decided I’m very young too. She’s made comments about “you youngsters” several times and she’s treating me in a rather motherly way which feels very weird to me as we are of teh same generation. She’s nice, but it’s a strange feeling to be treated like I’m her daughter's age. She’s never met my kid so I don’t think she has realised I have a seventeen-old son, which otherwise would indicate I can’t be “that” young. And now this has been going on for some time and it feel very awkward to try to drop it in the conversation. Or pointing out how old I actually am.

Strange about the acquaintance and her daughter. I don't even know what to advise you to do except maybe make your own comment about the youngsters.... I wouldn't worry too much about it, though!

Date: 2016-02-07 10:08 am (UTC)As to the other, I don't know, beyond randomly mentioning your son's birthday or yours or something! Everyone in my family has tended to get treated as being younger than we are - we do tend to look so, but also we're short and some people go by height! *shrugs*

Thank you! I slept a bit better last night and my fatehr was visible better than when I saw him last, a few weeks ago.
I don't worry about it, it just feels a bit- odd. :)
