Day 10
In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (More than one is okay, too.) Tell us about it, tell us why you love it, give us some examples and recs. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
Nowadays I think I’m more character motivated than anything else. If I like a character or pairing I’ll probably read the fic. It helps that I generally go for characters and pairings which are less popular, so there are usually not a lot of fic to be found. I definitely prefer good characterization over plottiness.
Basically I like to read what I like to write. I have a fondness for characters who morally grey, straddling the line between good and evil, and I also like competent female characters who doesn’t need a man to fix things for them. I enjoy darkfic and angst, but it really depends on how it is written. When it comes to smut, BDSM is very welcome. But I also really enjoy more humorous fics where the characters banter with each other.
Here are two examples of what I enjoy, one of the angsty kind, the other of the funny.

Date: 2017-01-17 05:00 am (UTC)It's interesting how some writers will read what they like to write, while others will read genres they would never write. Or the opposite. I think I'm more conservative in what I will write, over what I will read and enjoy. But I've based how I write my original fic specifically on stories I've enjoyed re-reading/re-watching.

Date: 2017-01-17 11:39 am (UTC)How can you tell? :D I've had a huge crush on Roger Delgado for ages. He played villains so well, but seemed to have been such a kind and intelligent man in reality. His Master was my first Master and the one I like best.
Yes, it can differ so much! I do read wider than I write. I don't mind a good happy love story, for example, even if my happy ones comes with a lot of angst and ambiguity. :)

Date: 2017-01-17 06:25 pm (UTC)I hate to admit I've never seen a Delgado episode, though I know who he is and what he looks like. Even plot spoiled (he turned into the blob, correct? How undignified ;-) I will have to find some of his episodes!
I didn't think it was possible to like any Master more than Simms, but I love Missy. She pairs so very well with 12, as Simms paired with 10, sigh...

Date: 2017-01-17 08:44 pm (UTC)He has a great presence, though his episode's suffer from what a lot of the 70's episode have trouble with- being 6 parters. They would probably have benefitted being shorter. But he is great and his chemsitry with the Third Doctor is wonderful. You really understand where teh idea of pairing teh Doctor with the Master came from when you see them interact.
But then Simms is the Master I like the least, so you may not like Delgado at all. ;) But I adore Missy- she's my second best Master.
