13 – Do you prefer canon or fanon when you write? Has writing fanfic for a fandom changed the way you see some or even all of the original source material?

I prefer canon, but it is still fanfiction and we are allowed to adapt. I can’t say it has changed my views, but thinking of what motivates a character do deepen one's understanding.

It's funny. I like using more canon the more I write. Weird, huh?

I've noticed something similar and not just when it comes to fanfiction. The more you dig into a subject the more you learn and I guess it'snatural to want to use that knowledge. :)
