First line meme gakked from [livejournal.com profile] nenya_kanadka.

List the first lines of your last ten stories. See if there are any patterns.

1. “I could open this airlock,” Missy said. (Come Here Puppy)

2. The youthful man in the expensive suit had watched the woman go through the drawers in silence. (Passing Ships)

3. Some days Donna wakes up and the world around her is all dim. (A Cage Without A Key)

4. Romana carefully put K9 down on the ground and patted his head before she sat down herself on a convenient rock. (A Brief Encounter)

5. They don’t realise it, the people in the large stone house, but the love they feel is perhaps the strongest protection they have. (Bittersweet)

6. Know thy enemy may be an Earth adage, but true nevertheless. (Corrupting Influences or It’s All the Doctor’s Fault)

7. The sound of the slap rang out too loud, or perhaps it was just because the room got so silent afterwards. (Building Character)

8. The first time Alison heard about Professor Keller she wasn’t even listening properly. (Professor Keller)

9. Stars, in their own dimension, look nothing like they do here, though they well know what happens in a universe that seems content to think of them as shining spheres. (The Doctor and the Sun)

10. King Yrcanos saved his beautiful lady, but all she did was to cry. (Coming Home)

Patterns, well… all but one, #5, which is a Penny Dreadful fic, are Doctor Who fics. Half of them identify one or two characters by name. And six of them is about the Master, but that’s hardly evident in the first line.

The pattern is you are good at opening lines! #9 and #10 are the most evocative I think.

I tend to use dialogue otherwise it'd be X stood up and walked across the room every time. I'm terrible at opening lines.

Oh, thank you! I never much thought about opening lines before. :) And before I checked I was convinced that most opened with dialogue.

You do tend to start out quite strong.

Oh, 5. is a powerful opener. Some really good ones here.

Ha, his looks interesting, but it might take me a while to do it. Just too many fics. XD Maybe I'll do it when I have a little more time.
