So, am I right in thinking that you can sign up now? And the previous hulabaloo was just for nominating fandoms? (I find Yuletide vast and confusing). Because there are a number of fandoms were I actually has some ideas, like Dalemark quartet and Ivanhoe. So perhaps I should sign up after all.

Date: 2015-10-19 07:36 am (UTC)I'm all for people signing up for things, but Yuletide is the big one, so I'd just say: be sure that you really want the requests you're asking for and that you want all of them fairly equally (you can ask for 3-6 fandoms). If you want primarily to write, it's better to treat or pinch hit.
If you're going to sign up, t's worth looking at any letters posted in the fandoms you're offering, because it's amazing what unexpected prompts people can come up with & checking those can lead to you avoiding offering a fandom (Or omitting a character or two to avoid a specific prompt) where someone's asking for something you couldn't write.
But it is still just a 1000+ word exchange, of course, and it's marvellous fun. There's nothing else in fandom like the moment when the Yuletide collection goes live on the 25th!

Date: 2015-10-19 04:15 pm (UTC)I'll just say again, though, that if you're going to sign up, the key thing is not what you might write, (although obviously you need to have something you're willing to offer), because you can write treats and pinch-hits without signing up at all, but what you want to get fic for yourself. If you don't want anything for yourself particularly, then it honestly is best go the treat/pinch-hit route. Other than that, I'd say, go for it, and, as with navaan, I've been in it a few years - feel free to ask me as well if you've questions. And the mods will always answer any queries on
Have fun with the tag set! The Yuletide tag set is always such a fun thing to dive into, thinking of wishes and fics...! And people's letters are being posted already, so you can see what people were thinking of as well.

Date: 2015-10-19 08:18 am (UTC)I know Yuletide looks super confusing from the outside, but at it's hard it works like most exchanges that are running (many of which are actually based on the Yuletide system). If you find enough fandoms and characters in the tag set, I say go for it! Yuletide is one of my favorite fannish things of all time.
If you don't want to sign-up, you can also just browse letters and write "treats" for people. (If you think you don't want the pressure of a deadline or don't have three fandoms you want to request fic for.)
Really, if you want to talk Yuletide or have any questions about things you find confusing, just shoot! I'll be happy to talk about all thing Yuletide at length. (Is my excitement showing?? It's Yueltide!! \o/)

You're allowed three to six requests and required to make four to ten offers, so that may require some consideration. (As
