I’m back! Did you miss me? Probably not, but I have missed you. Last friday LJ decided that my email- the same email I have had for eleven years, wasn’t validated. And it refused to send me validations mail. As a result I couldn’t post and I couldn’t comment. Annoying and boring! As I didn’t really want to create a new addy, I sent a query to LJ, and they told me that sometimes, as LJ sends out a massive amount of mail every day, some mailservers decide that they are spam and block them before then even reach the recipient. It’s solved now. Yay!

I’m mildly annoyed at Facebook who put up a picture that spoiled the last Doctor Who episode for me. Not that it surprised me, but I rather now know before I watch an episode.

I have re-watched The War Games. Those of you who read Diana Wynne Jones, don’t you think she must have been inspired by this one for Homeward Bounders? The main character is called Jamie and the bones of the plot is that as kind of being that isn’t human play a game with humans as pawns. Of course, Wynne Jones makes it her own story, so it’s absolutely not a DW-episode in disguise, but I think it must have given her the first idea. I wish she had written scripts for DW. She could make twisty time-plots like no other, and she was funny too.

Also, I know the War Chief isn’t supposed to be the Master, if you look to books and audios, but he is in my personal head canon. He behaves like the master, he is arrogant, smart and power hungry. He pretends to work for people in order to gain that power. He is dark, has a beard and dresses quite similar to Delgado!Master. I know, a Time Lord doesn’t have to look like a previous incarnation, the Doctor certainly doesn’t. But I think it could very well be that they could have a favourite type they return to as they regenerate anew. The original introduction of the Master contained information on him being newly regenerated and has fled from the Time Lords. And the Doctor gave up the war Chief to the Time lords, which could explain why the Delgado!Master comes to Earth and being so intent on killing the Doctor- he wants revenge. And then I find it just plain silly that the same class should produce four renegades. The Doctor, the Master, the war Chief and the Rani, that's quite a lot. Three is bad enough, it doesn’t speak well for the Gallifreyan education system. And given how alike the War Chief and the Master is, it seems even sillier.

Of course, the Doctor doesn’t seem to be as familiar him as he is with the Master, but I could also imagine this is pretend because of Reasons. And the War Chief seems to be dead at the end. But then the Master is very good to come back from being dead, so it could actually be seen as a point in favour for them being the same person.

I went and looked for fic about Two and the War chief. I find that a bit baffling.

Speaking of fanfic, my favourite fanfic ever was updated today after more than a year; Two Birds In A Cage! Yay! I can't recommend it enough. It's a very dark AU fic, taking place in the Infoverse. Newly regenerated Three has been imprisoned by the evil government to produce weapons. Needing an assistant, he gets a captured member of the resistance; SJ (Sara Jane). She's been badly tortured and mutilated and in terms of action, not much happens. But it's a pretty fantastic story about friendship and building trust and the character's are spot on. Be warned though; most of the violence and sexual abuse takes place off stage, but it's a grim and dark story nevertheless.

Arrrrghhh!! That would make me crazy!! I've been hearing from everyone how various email systems have been blocked from ElJay inbox messages and the like. Ridiculous, ugh. Seems most email systems took it upon themselves to decide what was 'true email' and what was not. Instead of, you know, ASKING.

Glad you are back!!

I'm in total agreement. I always equated the War Chief and the Master as the same person. Especially with the insistence that the Doctor must recognize him. Too many character traits that were alike. I don't care what anyone else says...tis totally my own head-canon!

*HUGS*

Exactly!

And doing that thing with stepping into the Doctor's personal space a little bit too intimately. And the name, chief isn't that far from master. *hugs*

Argh, I really don't like it when there just just casual spoilers around, even though the episode aired. I get it but not everyone can watch or read right away.

Thank you!

I try to stay away from them and on LJ people are very good on cutting with spoilers. But FB just throws things in your feed. Most annoying.

\o/ I'm glad you got it sorted - I suppose I shouldn't have switched emails so quickly and made them do something about it, but it didn't really make any difference.

I'd imagine DWJ probably didn't get her idea from The Homeward Bounders - although, of course, you never know what's lurking in the subconscious. They both have a similar underlying idea, but the DW is basically alien scientists kidnapping people from various wars and keeping them fighting those wars in little segments of time, whereas DWJ seems to have been inspired by table top gaming - what Jamie sees is very much that style of thing, which I don't really think is the case in the DW.

The War Games is so great, though. *sniffs just thinking of the ending* :-)

Thank you, it was most annoying.

They really aren't the same story, I agree, but I do think it must have lurked around somewhere.

I read an interview with Diana Gabaldon where she said Ourlander was inspired by Jamie after she had watched War Games. But that books really has nothing similar, apart from a handsome Scot named Jamie...

The War Games is so great, though. *sniffs just thinking of the ending* :-)

I completely agree with you there!

Welcome back:)

I had the email thing too - so annoying! I changed my email around. I'll change it back now!

I'm still not talking to the Time Lords over the end of 'The War Games':/

Someone I know on Facebook accidentally had her entire friends list spoiled. It was another person who wanted to do some good-natured spoiling of her (in the sort of way that she doesn't really mind it too much and they both have fun when she pretends to be outraged. At least that's what I gather from their interactions). Only he posted it on her wall visible to friends (by default, probably) without realising that this meant it would be shared with ALL her friends... Made me glad I wasn't following it myself. We've been watching them on BluRay but are currently taking a bit of a break from the show following the last series with the Ponds and a number of episodes and plot arcs that we felt didn't really make a lot of sense.

FB are so strange, it throws thing sint your feed like what a friend of a friend like, but some friends you never see at all.

I think the series really picked up again when Capaldi came, but then I always had a very soft spot for him. :)

*hugs you a lot, again*

The War Chief thought makes a lot of sense, I kind of thought that myself when I first watched the episode :)

It does, doesn't it? Also, all Time Lords seems to have core traits that stay true no matter of their current regeneration personality. Like the Doctor always trying to save people and give baddies second chances. The Master always wants power. Seems a bit strange of the Doctor had two class mates with the same core personality. :) <3
