Fanfic meme, question 29-31
Mar. 8th, 2021 12:47 pm29. Have you ever gone outside of your comfort zone for a fic? How did it turn out?
I’ve written a few things for various fic-exchanges which I would never have written otherwise. Nothing that was in my UNcomfort zone though, and even if I don’t much care for some of them they have been well received.
b>30. Tooth-rotting fluff or merciless angst?
Merciless angst. Even my fluff comes with a good dose of angst.
31. Do you have any OCs? Tell us about them!
I write very few, and I only have three that are main characters. I prefer to write canon characters, but sometimes OCs are necessary. I have a Doctor Who-fic called Professor Keller, where I wanted to write about the Master when the Doctor wasn’t around. If I had insisted on canon characters then I would have had to write an AU-fic, and I didn’t want to do that. So for that fic, I made up a married couple who has the great misfortune of encountering the Master.
Then I have two original characters in a series of Dracula-fics; Your Heart’s Desire, but I feel those fics are on the verge to original fiction. Unless you write a fic on a particular media with its particular Dracula, he is a character with so many versions. And though my Dracula is inspired by the way he is depicted in Elizabeth Kostova’s The Historian, her version where Dracula the myth is the same s the real Dracula, Vlad Tepes, she wasn’t the first one who thought about that either. And as my idea for the series was Dracula collecting a new set of brides, there really wasn’t any canon character in any Dracula-fandom that fit the bill.
I think I can safely say that my OC doesn't fall into the Mary Sue-category, nor are they self-inserts. I’m quite pleased with them, actually, and feel I’ve made them into fairly rounded characters, with their own voice.
All the questions.
