[livejournal.com profile] dunderklumpen Name one movie you absolutely love and why you like it so much.

Not easy to choose, but Persuasion (1995) is very high on the list. This is my favourite Austen book and I think the movie mostly do it justice. There are some turns about Mr. Elliot’s plans to stop Sir Walter from marrying again that may be a bit confusing, but apart from that I think they manage to capture the book. I like the casting, especially Ciaran Hinds, and I love the costumes and settings. I find the whole movie very restful to watch and I often return to it when I feel a bit frazzled and overwhelmed.

Plus it has David Collings!

It is a good movie where not much happens.

Compared to some other Austens it's a summer blockbuster plot wise!

That is a wonderful movie. I love how realistic the interiors and the styling are. There are crumbs on the tables, things are left laying around, people's hair gets messy; it doesn't feel theatrical or stagey.

And Hinds and Amanda Root are just perfect. I love novel Wentworth, and Hinds is very true to the characterization.

I love that too! It feels like places where people live.

Wenthworth is Austen's best hero, IMO. :)

Aw, yes, it's a very good one! (Although, technically, it's actually a TV adaptation made for BBC2 back in the day, even though it's not episodic, so I'm . . . just being really really pedantic! /o\)

I looked it up - and it's interesting. It was made by the BBC, who got extra funding from a US network (which isn't unusual for BBC period dramas at any time) and shown on TV here on BBC2 over Easter - but in the delay between it reaching the US, the makers decided that Austen was becoming suddenly popular and they'd try a cinema release. So it's both! I had no idea it had actually been theatrically released outside the UK - we only ever got it on BBC2, not even BBC1! Isn't that funny?

Funny in a rather odd way. :) It worked well on the big screen, though. :)

OMG! Me, too! That's one of my absolute favorite movies ever!

Actually... it's my favorite Austen book as well.

I could swoon when I see RPJ but I have to say that I prefer the 1995 version of Persuasion. The casting is excellent and IMO the main pairing does fit the description better than the quite pretty pairing in the ITV adaption. Plus CH was superb!

I'm excited that we have so many fandoms in common:)

A fine film indeed. I wish my favorite Austen novel had been treated nearly as well, but the adaptations of Mansfield Park have been simply ghastly.

I've never enjoyed adaptions of Mansfield Park either. Funnily enough I enjoy the Movie adaption os Sense & Sensibility more than the book which I find rather tedious. :)
