Fandom meme

I’m doing a stint reccing Doctor Who-fics at [livejournal.com profile] calufrax for a fortnight.

And the answers to the fandom meme:

[livejournal.com profile] flonejla asked: A - Ships that you currently like a lot. (They don’t have to be OTPs because not everyone has OTPs.) Friendships, pairings, threesomes, etc. are allowed.

In general I tend to like any pairing a fic writer manages to make believable. But at the moment I really enjoy Twelve/River Song (Doctor Who). And River Song/the Master. After season two of Agent Carter I felt a sudden an unexpected craving for Agent Carter/Ana Jarvis/Jarvis. I would also love more Childermass/Lady Pole (Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell).

[livejournal.com profile] velvetwhip asked: B - A pairing–platonic, romantic or sexual–that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind.

Nothing springs to mind- I don’t think that has ever happened.

[livejournal.com profile] velvetwhip asked: C - A ship you have never liked and probably never will.

I can't think of any. There are pairings I don’t feel much interest in, but none I dislike.

[livejournal.com profile] velvetwhip asked:D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t.

Hmm, for some reason I never seem to latch on to popular pairings in any fandom. I can’t say I really wish I could like them, though. Undoubtedly I would be more read if I cared to write Ten/Rose (Doctor Who), but I still have no desire whatsoever to write them.

[livejournal.com profile] flonejla asked: F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom?

I don't know. I was very occupied with Peter Pan for two years and then I spent eight years not being invested much in fandom at all, though I still wrote fanfics. And I’ve adored Doctor Who since 2003, or so, but only been active in the fandom since late 2014.

[livejournal.com profile] bearshorty and [livejournal.com profile] nenya_kanadka asked: I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?

No. Tumblr is very much a non-place for me. I can go there for pictures, but that’s it. I never really considered really checking out fandom stuff there.

[livejournal.com profile] vanillamagic K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?

Martha Jones (Doctor Who). I find her character arc very satisfying. She falls in love with someone who isn’t in love with her, she realises that the healthiest option for her is to leave and continue to pursue her own career. And she ends up successful and apparently happy.

[livejournal.com profile] evelyn_b L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves. (Characters you’re neutral about are fair game, as are characters you merely dislike. Characters that you absolutely loathe with the fire of ten thousand suns are exempt, as there is no point in giving yourself an aneurysm over a character that you hate.)

That was hard! Well, let’s take Wilf (Doctor Who), who seems to be most people's favourite, though I just like him. I love how supportive he is over Donna and the friendship he has with the Doctor.

[livejournal.com profile] evelyn_b and [livejournal.com profile] nenya_kanadka asked: M - Name a character that you’d like to have for a friend.

The Twelfth Doctor. I always get along with grumpy opinionated men.

[livejournal.com profile] paynesgrey asked: Q - A fandom you’ve abandoned and why.

Peter Pan. It was my first fandom and fór about two years I wrote fanfic pretty constantly, then I just stopped. Partly because there aren’t that many characters in this fandom and even fewer I was interested to write in, so I sort of run out of stories. And partly because they were almost all self therapeutic fics I don’t feel the need to write anymore. I had a few fics unfinished that I always thought I would return to, but after being persecuted by a flamer a few months ago, I lost the last lingering enjoyment of that fandom.

[livejournal.com profile] bearshorty, [livejournal.com profile] flonejla and [livejournal.com profile] vanillamagic asked: R - Which friendship/platonic relationship is your favorite in fandom?

One of the reasons to why I love Doctor Who is the friendship dynamics between the Doctor and his companion. i have very little need to ship them romantically, it’s the various expressions of friendship I really enjoy here.

[livejournal.com profile] nenya_kanadka asked: S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon (prompts optional but encouraged)

All Doctor Who here: If I have any OTP at all, then it’s the Doctor/Master, but I have only briefly ventured into that. I do, however, enjoy pairing up the Master with various companions. and my headcanon there is that the Master do that just because he is obsessed with the Doctor and it’s all ways for him to get at the Doctor through a proxy, so to speak.

In my headcanon River Song gets along splendidly with the Master, apart from Simms!Master.

[livejournal.com profile] evelyn_b asked: U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.

Delgado!Master from Doctor Who. I’ve always had a very soft spot for suave villains and combined with Roger Delgado’s real personality, which seems to have been just adorable, well, I can’t resist it.

Vaness Ives from Penny Dreadful. She’s fascinating and elusive. And though she isn’t always sympathetic, it’s very easy to root for her.

Childermass from Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell. Mystery man wit an agenda of his own, which never becomes completely clear. And still doing the right thing by the end.

[livejournal.com profile] paynesgrey and [livejournal.com profile] nenya_kanadka asked: W - A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom.

I don’t much care for using the word hate- it’s far too strong for anything I dislike in fandom. I tend to avoid what I don’t like, but I don’t waste energy hating it. But I stay away from the type of AU’s where the characters are put in a contemporary, ordinary setting. I have never managed to see the point in those. And I’m not interested in pregnancy fics or sickfics.

[livejournal.com profile] bearshorty and [livejournal.com profile] flonejla asked: X - A trope which you are almost certain to love in any fandom.

Well, I prefer angst and darkfic, but it’s also very important how a fic is written. A story may have all the ingredients I like- if it’s badly written I will stop reading it.

*nods* I mean, a good writer can sell you on nearly anything and a bad one put you off the very best idea. :-)

Also, thanks to Remix, your headcanon about the Master going off with companions has totally become mine, too. I'm not sure how that happened...

Exactly! And as long as it isn't something that totally gross me out, I Think a good writer could see things I wouldn't normally read. like a modern AU. Mind, I wouldn't read it if it wasn't recced to me. :)

Bwhahaha! It's my evil influence, no doubt! ;)
