Still spending most of my time sewing, which is why you only get updates of what I watch. I’ll get back to bore you with other things soon, I promise. Spoilers for Penny Dreadful below, but Versailles I'm merely gushing about.

I enjoyed the second episode of Penny Dreadful. Dorian and Lily was finally back, rescuing abused girls. I very much enjoyed Lily and Victor's meeting- he really don’t see her but an image of his ideal. I’m very curious on how they will visualize Mr Hyde. The best transformation has, IMO, always been those who make use of posture, gestures and mimic rather than heavy make-up. And Hecate helped Ethan to get rid of his captors. I think she has a huge crush on him! Vanessa was, of course, wonderful.

And I did not expect that Dr Sweet was Dracula! What a surprise! I had him pegged as a sort of love interest who would be killed. I’m not often surprised by plots, but I love it when I am.

I have finished Versailles and fallen quite in love with the series. I loved the complex relationship between the king and his brother. Indeed, i feel quite fannish over the series, especially when it comes to the female doctor and the king’s head of security, Ferdinand Marchal. To such a degree that I’m finally writing again (and I know what to request for Yuletide this year). I highly recommend the series, especially if you are a fan of period dramas. Much, much better than The Tudors and Reign IMO, both of which I couldn’t stomach more than an episode each off. Oh, please, watch it so I can have someone to squee with. There will be a second season, luckily, as it ended with an awful cliffhanger.

It's due to come to Britain next month, I believe, at which point I will certainly want to discuss it. How good are the costumes?

I think they are, on the whole, quite good and very pretty. The women's hairstyles is a bit all over the 17th century and mostly a bit later than the late 1660's. But then I think most people have no clue on 17th century hairstyles and when they were in fashion or not. :D

I must admit my knowledge of period hair is mostly based n Charles II's mistresses! However, after Musketeers, which was fun but deeply silly, any costume/hair is going to seem comparatively accurate.

I can't find Versailles over here yet, except to purchase for lots of money :-/ And now I want to watch it even more, as you say it's better than Tudors. Not that I watched it, but I've heard it's good. It didn't look accurate to me, but I love the main actor. BTW, whoever is on the cover of the Versailles DVD is hot!

I hope your stomach is better these days, and that you got some good sewing done :-)

I know too much about history, I think. I know very well that what really happened and what makes good TV isn't always the same thing and I get why things that were rumours are elevated to truths. The same with the clothes, even if I notice when things are wrong, I also know that it's TV and there are a lot of factors to why they are designed a certain way. But it's a balance thing and while I find that Versailles makes it right, The Tudors didn't. :)

There are a lot of eye candy of both sexes in the show.

Thank you! I feel a lot better now! <3

Victor making himself to be the victim and blindly mooning over Lily Bride Bitch (did it look to you Nice Girl Brona surfaced up for a brief minute there while talking to him?) is getting on my last nerve, and it's only the second episode. Somebody drop a clue anvil on him already.

A clue anvil! Yes, please. I don't think Lily is really estranged from Brona, I think she is both, but she choses to be Lily. And Victor probably do appeal to Brona, which is why she left him- he isn't part of her plans.
