Relieved

Today I finally got to check out the cyst I found in my left breast some time ago. I'm happy to say that though there is a cyst, it's small and filled with fluids. Not dangerous and nothing I need to do something about. I feel so relieved! And tired. But I work for another three hours, so no nap for me.

I'm glad everything turned out fine. Waiting is so horrible! I get the big wait every few years with mammographies; they call me in again, do another one, then the ultrasound. With variable density tissue, 2D doesn't always give good reads, so finally they recommended routine supplemental ultrasound for me at the annual screening session. I should get everything done at once and will go home knowing the results.

It's quite scary waiting 3 weeks for that ultrasound appointment and wondering about options. I've read studies that say that 3d tomography is much better for all types of tissue and is in the process of becoming more routine and some insurance companies are now covering it if available.

In Sweden, at least at my hospital, they do ultrasound at the same time, if the mammogrphy isn't deemed enough. Waiting like that doesn't sound like fun. I thought it bad enough to wait over the summer lull, even if I was almost sure the cyst wiasn't dangerous.

I am a breast cancer survivor. It is silly, but this news brought tears to my eyes.

It is a fearful time, but good for you getting it checked out. Now you know.
