A little bit of frivolity.

Fanfiction Questions

41. List and link to 5 fanfics you are currently reading:
This questions implies one only reads multi-chapters. I rarely do. I prefer one-shots. So I’m currently only following three multi chapters.

Two Bird’s in A Cage, a Doctor Who AU by daystarsearcher.

I’m also following two Versailles-fanfic, both fabien Marchal/Sophie de Clermont. Basically the only two who writes that pairing apart from me. Atonement by LadyOfGlencairn. And The Spymaster’s Pet by JuliaBrownen.

41. List and link to 5 fanfiction authors who are amazing:

daystarsearcher writes wonderful Doctor Who-fics. My only complaint is that we get about one chapter a year- and she has several WIP’s.

OzQueen fullfills my need for Ardeth/Evy/Rick.

lost_spook’s fics always makes me happy.

Hereswith writes lovely, often poetic, fics.

And instead of naming a fifth author, I’d like to direct you to my bookmarks for a whole slew of talented writers!

42. Is there anyone in your fandom who really inspires you?
Not a single person, but my friends in fandom, as a whole, is certainly inspiring in many different ways.

43. What ship do you feel needs more attention?
As I tend to like ships which isn’t popular, obviously I want more of the ships I like.

44. What is your all-time favorite fanfic?
Daystarsearcher’s Two Bird’s in A Cage. I think it’s fantastic, though not for everyone. It’s a very dark Classic Doctor Who-fic, set in the alternate reality of the episode “Inferno”, were UK is under a dictatorship. In this fic the Third Doctor is a captive forced to invent weapons, and Sarah Jane a journalist imprisoned for her views. After enduring torture she ends up as the Doctor’s assistant instead of being executed. It is, as I said, very dark, and you do well to check out the warnings. But it’s also well-written, and despite the bleak story, the Doctor and Sarah Jane are very much themselves. Or perhaps I should say as much themselves as one can be after enduring a number of traumatic events. And it’s also a story about friendship, trust and endurance. If you don’t mind hefty doses of angst, I urge you to read it. It’s a WIP, and I really hope it will be finished one day and not abandoned; the first chapter was written in 2011, and the last one, so far, in 2015.

45. If someone was to read one of your fanfics, which fic would you recommend to them and why?
Depends on what you want to read.

Romance: Romantic stories are something rather new for me to write. I don’t seem to be able to write them without some heave angst. My favourite fic is Ghosts (ainly Evy/Ardeth, The Mummy)

Friendship: A Place In the Shadows (Sembene&Vanessa Ives, Penny Dreadful) I find that the idea of a fic rarely is what teh fic finally becomes. This is the exception. It also make sme long for sponge cake.

Humor: The First Passion, and the Last (Missy/River Song, Thirteen/River Song, Doctor Who). Part of a series, but can be read as a standalone, though I actually think the whole series about the Master and River Song is pretty funny. Their personalities lend themselves well to snark and banter; A Little Less Than Kin

Horror: I’ve already mentioned Professor Keller, so let’s take Silence instead. (Captain Hook, Peter Pan) it was the first horror story I wrote, and it still gives me the creeps.

Angst: Solace (Nyssa of Traken & Ainley!Master, Doctor Who) I wrote this when I was dealing with grief, and I still think it is a pretty good take on it.

46. Archive Of Our Own, Dreamwidth, LiveJournal, Fanfiction.net or Tumblr - where do you prefer to post and why?
I don’t do Tumblr. I post on LJ/Dreamwidth- this journal was originally only for fanfiction and I had another personal journal. I also post on AO3, and for Doctor Who-fic also Teaspoon. I also post on Fanfiction.net, but that is more of old habit- it was my first archive.

47. Do you leave reviews when you read fanfiction? Why/Why not?
If I read something, I leave reviews. I love getting them myself, so I try to treat other’s fics the way I’d like moínte to be treated.

48. Do you care if people comment/reblog your writing? Why/why not?
I would write anyway as the act of writing is a pleasure in itself. But I love to get comments. It’s nice to hear you are not writing in a vacuum, and that someone appreciates what you do.

49. How did you get into reading and/or writing fanfiction?
About seventeen years ago a woman on a mailing list i was on, wrote a Harry Potter fanfic. It was very long, focusing on an OC; a blind witch attending Hogwarts, a few years older than Harry, and her relationship with Snape. Harry and what happens to him are only in the background. I had no idea what fanfiction was when I started to read it, but I loved it. I can’t find it anymore, so I suspect it has been pulled.

50. Rant or Gush about one thing you love or hate in the world of fanfiction! Go!
Even if I didn’t start to write fanfiction until 2004, I have imagined fanfiction (though I didn’t have a name for it) since I was seven. I love how good fanfiction can give you more of a story you love. Fanfiction can expand a world, or give you a new understanding, or deepen your love for it.

Aw, thank you!!

*nods* Yes. It is such a lot of fun, and such a great way to make friends.

Daystarsearcher is very good indeed. Two Birds is definitely too dark for my DW-preferences, but I've enjoyed all of hers that have been more to my taste very much.
