12. I pretend to have read it.

I don’t do that. What is the point? I don’t consider reading a competition- I only read for my own pleasure.

People have sometimes tried to get away with it during Literature classes if they ran out of time or hated the book or something - you know, just reading the notes and hoping that'll be enough to get you through an exam or a lesson! :-D

I will cop to having done this once in high school English class because we had to read a book I found very boring.

I can understand that- but then it was a book hoisted upon you. :)

I can understand that because you get a book thrust on you which you may not like at all. (My Mum studied with a boy who read Illustrated Classics instead of the original if he could. He got the best grades on every test!

Exactly! Reading for me is one of my oldest and most cherished pleasures. As an adult, I only read for my personal pleasure.

Me too! And I have no scruples dropping a book I don't like.

I don't see the point of this? There are loads of classics and such that I haven't read, but I can't think of a single book that makes me actually ashamed to not have read it. Besides, what if someone asked you about it, it'd be even more embarrassing to not be able to answer their questions while claiming to have read it than it would be to say, 'I'm not really interested in that book' or even just 'I haven't read it yet.'
