Spoilers under the Spoilers-cuts
Game of Thrones The stupidest season ever. Almost there on the character assassination part as Versailles. Like Dany going mad. Ok, she might be mad given her heritage. And it has, clumsily, been suggested since last season. And she has lost two of her babies, Jorah and Missandei. However. Dany would never ever burn innocent, especially not children. I could have seen her going straight to Cersei's when the bell starting tolling. NOT burn the city. She burned the city.
Jamie’s lovely redemption arc was completely destroyed. I was sure he would die, but his arc needed a noble sacrifice death. Like killing his loathsome sister. Instead, they both got a roof falling on their head. Talk about non-climax.
It would be nice to see all those good character traits Jon is said to have in action instead of just being talked about. I fully expect him and Davros heroically saving as many people as possible out of the city. They didn’t. At least Davros isn’t dead yet.
I’m sorry Sandor is gone, even if I expected it. I’m annoyed the Mountain went from a hugely muscled creature to one which only looked hugely fat. Yay for pointing out fat people are monstrous. Well done.
I knew Missandei was dead as soon as I saw the setup, but really. She was a slave; she was raised to have the autonomy taken from her. Yay writers from taking that from her with letting the Mountain kill her. She knew she was dead, and it would have perfectly been in character for her to jump to her death after saying “Dracarys.”
And good for you for fridging Ghost, Tormund, Sam, Gillis, Yara, and then also Sansa and Brienne.
Just about the only thing I have liked with this season is Sansa and Arya.
But I liked season 4 of Lucier a lot more than season 3. I found the character’s various struggles believable, and I probably felt as relieved as Linda when Lucifer finally had a real breakthrough in his therapy. I really liked the new characters. I found Inbar Lavi’s Eve adorable and had a really nice character growth. I liked how she discussed, and clearly had to work through, how she was literally created to be Adam’s wife and her own wishes were never considered. I always like Graham McTavish which was one of the two reasons I continued watching Outlander. He seemed to enjoy being demon more than a zealous priest, though, so it was a pity he only got to be a demon in the last episode. I also liked that it didn’t end with a cliffhanger. The show could end now, with most of the things resolved, even if it would be a very sad end for Lucifer and Chloe.
What I missed was interaction is larger sets. Probably because it was only 10 episodes, but the characters mostly interacted one on one, or in three’s. And I found Lauren German’s frozen face distracting. She got some life in it at the end, so I guess the botox started to vera off.
Still find Killing Eve hilarious.
We watched Miss Fisher’s MODern Murder Mysteries, and enjoyed it, even if it isn’t as good as the original. Phryne is missing, presumed dead, and her niece, who never met her aunt, inherits. I liked Peregrine’s good-natured enthusiasms and the 60’s setting but found the side-kicks paler than the original.
Got caught up on Grantchester. I’ve grown rather tired of Sid’s moping, so I didn’t mind him falling in love with an African-American woman and moving to the southern USA. I’m sure he’ll get up as often as he wishes now. I liked the replacement priest a lot and wouldn’t mind seeing more of the show now. I also liked the side-plots with Mrs. M struggling with the knowledge of Leonard’s sexuality and how Geordie’s wife dealt with sexual ´harassment at her workplace.
Did I say that I continued watching the reboot of Charmed despite my misgivings? Well, I have, and it has grown on me. The original was, after all, pretty cheesy and silly at times, so why shouldn’t this one be the same on occasion? And it isn’t at all prone to dress up the Charmed Ones in revealing outfits.
And May 31 can’t come soon enough- I’m eagerly awaiting Good Omens and Deadwood

Date: 2019-05-14 10:26 am (UTC)Barack Obama and I were born in the same year; I checked once and there were still a dozen states in which his parents could not have legally married (his white mother and African father). So utterly appalling. I suppose it's beyond the Grantchester writing staff's even imagining?
