I’ve seen this floating around my f-list, and as I feel rather unproductive, it seems like an easy way to write a post.

Post the first sentence in you ten last fanfics, and see if you can draw any conclusions.

July in New York was as hot and humid as usual. Razorblades and Sable Coats, All About Eve

Sophie de Clermont, left motherless and destitute, hates Fabien Marchal with everything her passionate heart can muster. The End of the Story, Versailles

“So this is where you live” Midge chirps as she steps into his room. A Moment, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

The first time Garcia Flynn saw Lucy Preston he felt no premonition of what she would mean to him. To Lucy With Love, Timeless

Dear Arabella,
I trust you will not be affronted if I don’t spend many words on asking how you are though I am of course wildly curious. I will expect a long missive from you describing everything in great detail.
A Conversation in the Yellow Drawing-Room, And Other Letters To Mrs Strange, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell

Sophie woke up to her husband's hands tearing her nightdress, his body pressing her down into the bed. Remembrance, Versailles

Falling in love was never something Sirius intended to do. Soaring High (The Flying Lesson Remix), Harry Potter

Sarah Jane Smith had never heard of a place called Perivale until her editor asked her to go there. Nothing Interesting Ever Happens in Perivale, Doctor Who

Rebecca had given up her fine clothes and jewellry without regrets when she went to Spain. A Gift For Her Heart, Ivanhoe

The wedding was a small affair, with only the few nearest and dearest attending. Wedding Nerves, Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

Well, if anything can be said, then I guess my first sentence either set the place or the mood, for the fic. The exception is A Conversation in the Yellow Drawing Room, which also is told in first person, which is unusual for me as well.

It's always very hard for me to see any running them, especially in my own, in so few words...

This is a fun meme. It's always interesting to see different ways of hooking the reader with that first line. A lot of these start by describing the protagonist's situation (I assume), which makes sense.
