The books of 2019
Jan. 1st, 2020 07:19 pmIf anyone wants to see which books I read, you’ll find a list of them after the questions.
How many books did you read this year?
59, seven of those were non-fiction. And I read 15 novellas.
Did you reread anything?
Yes, 18 books, and 6 novellas.
What were your top five books of the year?
Well, obviously Kostova’s The Historian as it is a perennial favourite. Also Cottam’s Dark Echo, Kingfisher’s The Twisted Ones, McShane’s The Book of secret and Robinson’s Before the Poison
Did you discover any new authors that you love this year?
Not outright loved, but the new author I liked best is Melissa McShane.
Was there anything you meant to read, but never got to?
No.
Did you meet any of your reading goals? Which ones?
I never have a reading goal.
Did you get into any new genres?
Nope.
What was your favorite book that has been out for a while, but you just now read?
Must be Montgomery's Jane of Lantern Hill
How many books did you buy?
No idea, but at least 60.
Did you use your library?
Shamefully no, as I literally see our library's exit from my bedroom window.
What’s the fastest time it took you to read a book?<7b>
I don’t keep track, but it’s not unusual for me to finish a book in a single day.
Did you DNF anything?
Yes, Kushiel’s Dart by Jaqueline Carey. I kept thinking I would get back to it but eventually realised it just didn’t interest me enough to finish.
What reading goals do you have for next year?
None
What’s the longest book you read?
Probably Eliabeth Kostova’s the Historian
What was your average Goodreads rating? Does it seem accurate?
I don’t use Goodreads.
What was your most anticipated release? Did it meet your expectations?
Even though I follow a few book series there was none I feel very excited about.
Did you participate in or watch any booklr, booktube, or book twitter drama?
No
Any books that disappointed you?
Quite a few cheap crime novels were blah, but then cheap Kindle books can be very hit and miss.
What genre did you read the most of?
Crime novels, followed by fantasy, and the horror.
What were your least favorite books of the year?
Houghton’s Don’t Even Break
What books do you want to finish before the year is over?
I’m currently reading Frances Hardinge’s Deeplight, but seeing midnight is just a few hours away, and I’m at work, I doubt I will finish it this year. (As of posting this, I finished it.)
Did you read any books that were nominated for or won awards this year (Booker, Women’s Prize, National Book Award, Pulitzer, Hugo, etc.)? What did you think of them?
I may have, but I don’t keep track, so I have no idea.
What is the most over-hyped book you read this year?
No idea- I don’t keep track.
Did any books surprise you with how good they were?
Yes, I was surprised I liked The Book of secrets by Melissa McShane as much as I did.
