Fandom Questions
1. What was your first fandom?
Well, I guess it must have been Lord of the Rings even if I had no idea of what fandom was back then. I started to read fanfiction around 2000, Harry Potter-fic, and the first fandom I actually wrote fanfic in was Peter Pan.
2. What is your latest fandom?
The last I have been really invested in is Versailles, but Victoria is the last new show I have watched and written fics in.
3. What is the best fandom you’ve ever been involved in?
Doctor Who. I’ve heard it’s supposed to be a difficult fandom, but my corner have always been very nice and welcoming.
4. Do you regret getting involved in any fandoms?
No.
5. Which fandoms have your written fanfiction for?
Peter Pan
Sleepy Hollow (the movie, that is)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Doctor Who
Harry Potter
The Historian/Dracula
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell
Victoria
The Mummy
Versailles
Penny Dreadful
Pirates of the Caribbean
Buffy/Angel
Emily of New Moon
Once Upon A Time in Wonderland
Agent Carter
The Man in the High Castle
Though for the last six I have only written one fic in each fandom.
6. List your OTP from each fandom you’ve been involved in.
Well, I don’t really have OTPs, even if I have some pairings I prefer. Back when I wrote Peter Pan it was mainly Hook/Wendy, and with Penny Dreadful I have a strong preference for Vanessa Ives/Sir Malcolm Murray. And in Versailles I really like Fabien Marchal/Claudine Masson and Fabien Marchal/Sophie de Clermont
7. List your NoTPs from each fandom you’ve been in.
I don’t have any.
8. How did you get involved in your latest fandom?
Watching the show.
9. What are the best things about your current fandom?
That it sparks my imagination.
10. Is there a fandom you read fic from but don’t write in?
Yes. A lot more than I write in actually.
Ship Questions for your Current Fandom
11. Who is your current OTP?
See question 6.
12. Who is your current OT3?
I have developed a fondness for Ardeth/Evy/Rick in The Mummy.
13. Any NoTPs?
No.
14. Go on, who are your BroTPs?
Can’t say I have any.
15. Is there an obscure ship which you love?
All of mine? I actually enjoy Queen Victoria/Lord Melbourne, which seems to be THE ship in its fandom, but I promise it was an accident! I’m pretty lonesome in shipping River Song/the Master. And though I find Philippe/Chevalier pretty adorable to watch in Versailles, I have no interest at all in shipping them in fic. I take those het ships me and about one other person writes. :)
16. Are their any popular ships in your fandom which you dislike?
No. Be totally uninterested in, yes, but dislike, no.
17. Who was your first OTP and are they still your favourite?
Hook/Wendy in Peter Pan, and no, they are not.
18. What ship have you written the most about?
Still generally available for reading would be The Master(various incarnations)/River Song. Otherwise Hook/Wendy.
19. Is there a ship which you wished you could get behind, but you just don’t feel them?
Not really. I guess it could be nice to ship a popular pairing for the sake of more hits and feedbacks, but if a ship doesn’t interest me, it just doesn’t.
20. Any ships which you surprised yourself by liking?
None.
Author Questions
21. What was the first fanfic you ever wrote?
A very dark Peter Pan-fic called Wedding Night back in 2004.
22. Is there anything you regret writing?
No. There are several which now only exist in f-locked entries on LJ du to content, but I don’t regret writing them.
23. Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it.
Oh, difficult! But I think it’s a Penny Dreadful-fic called A Place in the Shadows. It really turned out exactly as I had envisioned, and that is not always the case. It also makes me crave sponge cake and tea.
24. What fic do you desperately need to rewrite or edit?
I really need to finish my rewrite of Professor Keller. I only have two chapters left… And some of my old fics would benefit from an edit as my writing skills have improved, but I doubt I will ever get around to do that.
25. What’s your most popular fanfic?
Hit-wise it’s a Peter Pan-fic with Hook/Tinkerbell; Not Totally Useless. But when it comes to kudos it's Come Here Puppy, a Doctor Who fic with Missy and Clara.
26. How do you come up with your fanfic titles?
Usually a title show up somewhere during the writing process, and if not, then I’m fond of quotes which fit.
27. What do you hate more: Coming up with titles or writing summaries?
Summaries all the way!
28. If someone were to draw a piece of fanart for your story, which story would it be and what would the picture be of?
Frankly, I would be overjoyed whatever fic it was. It has happened to me the whole of three times and two of those times I wasn’t even told, but stumbled over them by chance.
29. Do you have a beta reader? Why / Why not?
I don’t have a steady beta, but I try to find someone for fic-exchanges. I wouldn’t mind having it more often, but I feel very self conscious in asking for one.
30. What inspires you to write?
Lots of things. A quote, a scene, a picture. Talking long walks with the dogs makes wonders too.
31. What’s the nicest thing someone has ever said about your writing?
I’ve had a lot of nice comments over the view, but the one which I remember was the long, thoughtful comments I got for almost every chapter of All Within. And on FF.net, even.
32. Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you?
I don’t listen to music when I actually write, but music often inspires me, and I listen when I think and plan a fic. Most notable with Professor Keller which has Elvis Costello to thank for the chapter titles and the main character’s name
33. Do you write oneshots, multi-chapter fics or huuuuuge epics?
Generally shorter fics, one-shots or just a few chapters.
34. What’s the word count on your longest fic?
17 000 words, or so. It isn’t finished, so it will get a little longer.
35. Do you write drabbles? If so, what do you normally write them about?
Very rarely, though it has happened.
36. What’s your favourite genre to write?
I’m not sure. I like to write angst- even my romantic stuff is pretty angsty. And I enjoy writing gen.
37. First person or third person - what do you write in and why?
Third person. I find that easiest.
38. Do you use established canon characters or do you create OCs?
Established characters on the whole. But the main character is an O in Professor Keller, mainly because it’s about what the Master do when the Doctor isn’t around, so I couldn’t find any canon characters which fitted with the story I wanted to write. I also have OC as main characters in my Historian/Dracula-fics, but they are more vampire stories in their own right rather than fanfic.
39. What is your greatest strength as a writer?
I’m good at emotions. And villains.
40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing?
Finding the time to write...
Fanfiction Questions
42. List and link to 5 fanfiction authors who are amazing:
daystarsearcher No one writes angst like her.
icarus_chained With more than 500 fics in a wild variety of fandoms you are bound to find something you like.
lost_spook The fact that I have more fics bookmarked by her than any other author speaks for itself.
Nostalgia I always enjoy her Doctor Who-fics.
OzQueen Who makes me blush
43. Is there anyone in your fandom who really inspires you?
Not one person, but the whole sum of friends and interactions are very inspirational.
44. What ship do you feel needs more attention?
All those obscure ships *I* like, of course! ;)
45. What is your all time favourite fanfic?
Two Birds in A Cage by daystarsearcher
This is a very dark Doctor Who-fic, set in an alternate universe seen in an Third Doctor episode called Inferno. In this world England is a dictatorship and when Three crashes with his TARDIS on Earth, he s imprisoned and forced to invent weapons. Sarah Jane Smith is a member of the resistance who is “given” to the Doctor a an assistant. The characterization is superb, even if the themes are dark. I think I’ve read this three times and I live in fear it will be abandoned as it is a WIP.
47. Archive Of Our Own, Fanfiction.net or Tumblr - where do you prefer to post and why?
Archive of our Own. But also ff.net out of habit and on my own journal. And I post my Doctor Who-fic on Teaspoon.
48. Do you leave reviews when you read fanfiction? Why / Why not?
Yes. If I read something, I comment. Getting comments makes me happy and I like to pay it forward.
49. Do you care if people comment / reblog your writing? Why / why not?
Yes. I would write anyway, but I love comments and recs. It's nice to see that people like what you write.
50. How did you get into reading and/or writing fanfiction?
I was on a mail list around 2000 and another member wrote this amazing Harry Potter fic about a student a little older than Harry. I had never heard of fanfic then and for a few years I just read. Then I saw a promo pic for Peter Pan and somehow it triggered something in me which made me start writing.
51. Rant or Gush about one thing you love or hate in the world of fanfiction! Go!
I don’t hate this so much as I can’t understand it, and that is the need some corners of fandom has to persecute anyone who writes things they don’t like. I’ve only been touched by it, but it was very weird when someone purposely read a number of my darkest fics and then berated me for writing just those things I had explicitly warned for. I don’t get that. I can understand being upset if one accidentally read something triggering because there was no warning for it. And I certainly get being squicked by something- there are a number of things I don’t like to read. But I just stay away from those fics.
