This last week has been dreadfully busy, so not much writing and not much reading either.

What I am reading: Det rena landet (“The Pure Country”) by Maja Hagerman.

What I have finished reading: The Seventh Bride by T. Kingfisher. A new book and author for me, a fantasy YA novel. Rhea, the miller’s daughter is fifteen years old, nice enough, but neither important or beautiful. And suddenly she is engaged to a nobleman who turns out to be a sorcerer and with no less than six previous brides, with only one of them buried. And every single one of them has lost something very important to their husband when they marry him.

It’s a modern fairy tale picking up classic traits; like doing three impossible tasks, but with a fresh twist. It’s also almost a horror story, both grim and dark and even if it ends on a happy-ish note, it is just -ish. I liked it a lot and will certainly check out more from this author.

The Tomb by H. P. Lovecraft. An early Lovecraft with a clear Poe-influence. A young man get obsessed with a crypt, slowly getting more and more influenced by the family who is buried there.

What I will be reading next: Not sure, apart from another Lovecraft short story, co written with Hazel Heald; Out of the Aeons.
