Life and TV-shows

Sweden switched to summertime last weekend, which invariable makes me feel jet-lagged and cranky. As I do when we go into winter time too. I would much rather we kept to one time all year round.
And on Sunday my spring allergies exploded- I strongly suspect the birches. I hate feeling congested and stupid. But it’s pretty outside, especially by the lake when I am walking the dogs. The downside with the warmer weather is that Tom catches mice. Suddenly he jumps one-two-three and the poor thing squeals its last. I hate it, but I don’t know how to stop it- he does it even when he’s on the leach. Luckily he is very good at dropping it when I tells him. I keep telling him he is bred for sheepherding, not hunting. Teddie, on the other hand, has no instincts at all- he only wants to goof around. To his delight the swan couple was back today. He loves them and lives in hope they will someday want to play with him. They, on the other hand, are not pleased at all with this doggly adoration.
I haven’t done a what I have been watching-post in ages, so here goes. Everything under the cut may contain spoilers.
Only one episode left of Grimm, ever. Despite the shortness of the season, I like this one a lot better than the previous. For one thing, scary Diana has become a lot less eerie.. Even if it’s clear from my re-watch that Renard was a lot more morally ambiguous than I remembered, I like it so much better when he and Nick work together, than when they are enemies. Not that they exactly like each other now, of course. I predict he, Renard that is, will heroically die to save his daughter. I also hope the stick will revive Wu and Hank. I also thought Eve/Juliette would sacrifice herself too, but I’m more doubtful now, even if her and Nick’s relationship seems to be completely over. I wasn’t keen on Nick and Adelind, but now it’s here, and I’ll prefer it to go on. For all its occasional silliness I am very fond of this show, and I’ll be sorry to see it go. Monroe is my favourite sidekick ever, and I’ve loved the very real sense of friendship which makes this show strong. Not only Nick and Monroe as BFF’s, but Nick’s working friendship with Hank and Wu, Bud as the occasional pal and Rosalee and Juliette. And I think Adelind has made a pretty good character arc- a much better one than Juliette’s.
But OUAT! Well, I think I can safely say I will give up this show after this season. And I stay on now only because I really am very fond of Oded Fehr and I hope he will turn up again. I even saw that trite shit called Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo for his sake. (and was rewarded with a naked Oded Fehr, those minutes sure wasn’t wasted). But when it comes to OUAT I have grown tired of this constant bombardment of new characters who are given no grounding and who are gone before one get to know them. And all the villains! What’s wrong with having one or possibly two Big Bad each season? This is what I think goes on in the heads of those who are behind OUAT (beware of snarking):
As we firmly believe our viewers have the attention span of a gnat, it is of vital importance to constantly have new characters so they don’t lose interest. Nevermind psychological depth, or getting to know a character. So we begin this season with no less than two Baddies- Mr. Hyde and the Evil Queen. And then we re-introduce Jafar, and we are getting Oded Fehr to play him, that will be popular. But wait, there’s more- we tease our viewers with an intriguing little bit with James Marsters. So let’s start the season and kill off Mr. Hyde, throw in Jafar and then throw him out again. We’ll pull him back for a few seconds in the last episode. Maybe. But don’t worry, we have the Count of Monte Christo and Captain Nemo for a blink of an eye. Nevermind that they have nothing in common with their literary counterparts- who reads books now anyway? And don’t worry, we give Zelena a reply or two in every fourth episode or so, and drag back David’s adoptive father the Evil King for a brief moment too. What? You thought Aladdin, Jasmine and the consequences of being a Savior was interesting? Ha ha, you are so funny, that was just for killing time before we pointlessly throw Emma into an alternative reality for awhile, only so we can have an excuse to bring back Evil!Robin. We felt we had too few villains in this story, you know, and who doesn’t love another badly conceived plot idea? And before we forget, here is Rumple’s Evil Mum- the more the merrier. Oh, and you also thought it was Jafar under that hood due to the snake motif and the heavy hint in the previews that he was a main villain. You really are amusing, aren’t you? No, no, it was actually Rumbelle’s son Gideon who we first called Morpheus so all the Sandman fans would perk up their heads. We really like to joke around with our viewers. Not that the Gideon is important anyway, he is only there to bring some more Rumple angst, and allow him and Belle to drag out their dysfunctional relationship the season out…
With that said I actually liked the last episode. It felt thematically right for Regina to accept herself, but I wish the show wasn’t in such a hurry all the time. Blink and you miss something.
Supernatural is on hiatus, but I have enjoyed the season so far. I would have liked rockstar!Lucifer a little longer, but I’m not sad about having Mark Pellegrino back either. I like Mary a lot, but I’m so so about the British Men of Letters.
Last season of The Blacklist too. I like it, but I also feel the story arc has run its proper course. I was surprised that is seems to be Dembe who has poisoned Red. I’ve thought Dembe will kill Red, ever since he shot Kate, but I feel it’s very OCC to use poison. Especially on Red, whom he loves. I predicted more of way of mercy-killing a rabid dog, swift and painless. But the season isn’t over yet, and the show is notorious for it’s twists. I’ve also started to watch Blacklist redemption, which I like, thought it’s much more a straight up action thriller. I like Famke Jensen and I also like that they have opted to give a woman around 50 such a hefty role.
Husband and I are also watching Eureka, which is a re-watch for me, and new to him. It’s a rather charming show, I think. I was a bit surprised to see Tygh Runyan (Fabien Marchal in Versailles pop up in an episode as Fargo’s grandfather. I recognized the voice before I placed the face- he looked quite different without a long wig and facial hair.
