Face of the Raven

So, I watched Face of the Raven last night.
Eeep! Well, I had already come to the conclusion that Clara would die, because there had been so many hints about it, and then I got accidently spoiled on Facebook too, to my great annoyance.
Clara was never my favourite companion, though I certainly liked her. However, I always felt she originated as a plot ploy rather than a character and then it got a bit scrambled when she was supposed to be a person too. I often felt the writer’s wrote her in a way that suited that particular episode, which made her a bit all over and not always reacting in a way that felt consistent. Not Clara’s fault, she was just written that way.
I did feel she departed in a suitable manner. She saved the Doctor on Trenzalore, not expecting to survive, so even if she didn’t knew she couldn’t be saved from the raven, she knew there was a risk in doing so and she did it anyway to save her friend. And I think she had walked around with a death wish since Danny died. Also, even if it wasn’t mentioned, she did have contact with Danny after he died, so one can guess she felt fairly certain she would meet him again. Speaking of him I am a little annoyed that the whole plotline with Clara meeting her and Danny’s descendant is moot know.
I have always liked the chemistry between Capaldi and Coleman and I liked it here too. It really came through how much the Doctor and Clara loves each other and how well she understands him. And now the Doctor is alone, grieving and- angry. Not a good combination for him and I can’t wait finding out more.
Ashildr, however old she is now, doesn’t seem to be able to learn to grasp a few things. The Doctor cares about her, if she had just sent him a message saying “Help”, he would have come for her. No need for this plot with involved despair and grief for so many people, no matter if it was just temporary. Overly complicated and unnecessary cruel. I wonder if it will be addressed that in saving, or damning, Ashildr to eternal life, the Doctor has a hand in Clara’s death himself. Or Clara herself, for the matter, who was the one who asked him doing it.
And where is the Doctor going? My guess is Gallifrey. Even if they are his people, the Time Lords aren’t especially nice people and I can imagine they could do something like this to summon him. It could be Missy too, of course. Either way, I’m sure Gallifrey will pop up now.

Date: 2015-11-24 02:06 pm (UTC)I didn't see Clara's departure coming. I hadn't picked up on the hints, nor had I come across any spoilers. I also was overseas, living in a monastery, for all the time Clara was in the series with Matt Smith, only returning in time to start with Capaldi's first season, so there is a lot about Clara I haven't yet discovered. But I have been working my way, with my chap, from the first episode of the modern Dr Who. We are almost at the final Tennant episode.
I was sad to see Clara go, but of course, she would never have chosen to leave, so her dying makes sense. And I am glad they gave her a good death.
She was a good companion, but also not my favourite. I think Donna has been my favourite so far. So wonderfully quirky.
Interesting theories about who could be calling the Dr. I had just assumed Daleks (and I know it is almost blasphemous to say, but I find daleks such an uninteresting enemy...). So I like the sound of your theories!
Wonder what will happen with the Dr next, and who his next companion will be, and how he will find her (or him?).

I agree, Clara would never have left on her own accord. Donna is my favourite as well! Not just when it comes to NewWho, but for all companions ever. :)She's so kind and emphatic while still having a temper and insecurities.

*small voice* I don't care much for the Daleks either... But I'm afraid they may show up, with them ebing at war with Gallifrey. I really hope not, though. Once every season is more than enough, than you!
